Here’s What to Do When Your Furnace Won’t Ignite

We are getting through the last of the weeks of winter but we still are relying on our furnaces, especially during cold nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than turning in at night and realizing your furnace won’t kick on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a couple things you can check yourself before your call Service Experts Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters each month. If you fail to do so, they can end up clogged, obstructing air flow and causing your furnace to malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but verify the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so confirm the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch wasn’t accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your furnace will still not kick on, give Service Experts Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing a call at 866-397-3787 and we’ll come out and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
