With the cold weather we all tend to spend more time indoors trying to stay warm. While sometimes snuggling in bed and drinking coffee will do the trick, Levy & Son Service Experts is here with a couple tips on how to stay warm (and safe!) this winter.
Install Carbon Monoxide Detectors
Make sure you have carbon monoxide (CO) detectors installed on all floors of your home, specifically near bedrooms, and test them to make sure they are working. Since CO is an odorless gas and cannot be detected, it’s crucial that you have working CO detectors to make sure your family is safe.
Get Your Chimney Inspection
This is the right time of year to get the fireplace going, but before you do, be sure you have your chimney cleaned and inspected by an expert. The fireplace can be a source of CO if you don’t have it regularly cleaned and maintained.
Be Careful with Space Heaters
Space heaters are generally safe, energy efficient, and an effective way to heat small areas of your home, but verify it has been approved by a recognized testing laboratory and has an automatic shut-off feature. Observe all manufacturer’s instructions and be sure it is placed on a hard, level surface at least 3 feet away from any flammable products.
Furnace Tune-Up
With a Precision tune-up from Levy & Son Service Experts in Dallas, we will perform a safety check of your furnace to be sure there are no leaks or carbon monoxide issues. Along with a heating tune-up, verify your heating vents are not blocked and that you’re replacing your air filter every 30 days. This will keep the air flow unrestricted and help avoid allergens from aggravating respiratory issues.
