Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t here yet but the temperatures are definitely rising and that means it’s time for air conditioning season. Before the heat sets in and you’re running your air conditioning unit constantly to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your air conditioning technician to visit your home and conduct your yearly ac maintenance.

In addition to an air conditioning tune-up, there are several other ways you can get ready for the cooling season before warmer weather is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

Don’t start taking your air conditioner apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the space around your A/C to remove sticks and debris that have made their way to your air conditioner during the windy winter and stormy spring. Mow the grass around the unit and prune back any overgrown shrubs or vegetation to make sure your cooling equipment is clear of debris. Clearing the air way can help keep your air conditioning unit running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Levy & Son Service Experts will change your home’s basic air filters when they complete your AC Precision tune-up as part of your standard A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also swap out your HVAC air filters on your own, and it’s recommended that you do so at least every 30-60 days for optimal performance. An unchanged filter accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of you and your loved ones and the efficiency of your air conditioner, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your standard A/C system service. Note that a clogged filter could actually damage your air conditioner.

  • Block the Sun

Help block the sun from heating up your home by hanging blackout drapes or window shades. Hanging drapes or curtains may also help keep your furniture and floors from fading or experiencing sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t check your smoke and CO detector batteries over daylight savings, now it a great time. While you’re at it, check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is running properly so you don’t end up calling your HVAC company because your air conditioner isn’t working and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider investing in an automated thermostat so you can adjust the temperature away from home and save money on your energy bills.

A seasonal AC tune-up service could make your A/C unit up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your energy bills. Call Levy & Son Service Experts today to make sure your cooling equipment is set to keep you cool and comfortable all summer and ask about our spring specials on A/C system tune-ups.
